4. Essay Questions
A unique feature of A+LS lesson design is the essay
question. It presents to the student a lesson-related problem and asks the
student to provide a written response using lesson-specific skills. Essay
exercises cover analysis, analogies, comparisons, interpretations, and value
judgments and are designed to develop critical thinking skills. Where possible,
these exercises emphasize current topics, such as the environment, the local
community, and American social and civic issues, to stimulate interest in
and develop skills in these important, broad topic areas. The essays are
excellent examples of a student's work to include in their portfolio. The
essay component is invaluable for schools who have an emphasis on incorporating
writing skills across content areas. Essay questions are not included in
all lessons. |
