Pronunciation skills and symbols, review of consonants, vowels, and verbs; word analysis skills including sight words, commonly misspelled words, synonyms and antonyms, core subject words, and words with multiple meanings; sequencing, alphabetization; comprehension skills including conflict and climax, characterization, drawing conclusions, predicting and summarizing; reading selections to demonstrate mystery, fiction, non-fiction, fables, and poetry; figurative language including alliteration, assonance, onomatopoeia, irony, personification, flashback, and foreshadowing.
