DELAWARE

Greetings from the First State!  Delaware was the first state to ratify t
he Constitution.  Thomas Jefferson once called Delaware the “Diamond State” because like a diamond we are small but valuable.  We are named after Thomas West, governor of Virginia who had the title Lord De La Warr.  The first log cabins built in America were built in Delaware by the Swedes.  Delaware was owned by William Penn.  He gave Delaware their own government because he didn’t want his colonies fighting with each other.  We are the home of the DuPont Company.  Democratic Vice President candidate Joe Biden is one of our US Senators.

Sincerely, Mr. Miller and his fourth grade students
