MASSACHUSETTS

boston

Greetings from Massachusetts, birthplace of Johnny Appleseed, JFK, Ben Franklin, and Dr. Seuss!  Our state bird is the turkey.  Our state flower is the Mayflower, named after the Pilgrims’ ship.  You can visit the Mayflower in Plymouth where the Pilgrims landed.  MA is known for colleges and hospitals (Harvard and MIT).  We are located in the Northeast, along the Atlantic Ocean.  Many people enjoy lobster and clam chowder here.  MA is also known for its apples!  In the winter it’s a wonderland of snow.  Make Ways for Ducklings is our state children’s book.  Our school is named after Charles Goodyear – the man who improved rubber!  To learn more about MA, you can visit www.massvacation.com

Greetings from Massachusetts,
We are a fifth grade class at the Leroy L. Wood School in Fairhaven, Massachusetts.  We love the Wood School because the teachers are great; we learn a lot; and we do lots of interesting things during the year.  Most of us live on Sconticut Neck which is right near Buzzards Bay and the Atlantic Ocean.  We also live close to Cape Cod (the elbow of Massachusetts), which is famous for its beaches and National Seashore.
In the summer we like to go swimming at the beach, play baseball and softball, skateboard, camp, and visit amusement parks like Canobie Lake Park (NH) and Six Flags, which is near Springfield, MA.  Springfield is also the home of the Basketball Hall of Fame.
In the winter it gets very cold, and it usually snows.  We like to go snowboarding, skiing, and sledding.  Some of us also like to play hockey, ice skate, and have snowball fights.
Massachusetts is a great state!  It is very historical.  Many events leading to the Revolutionary War took place in Massachusetts: the Battle of Lexington and Concord, Battle of Bunker Hill, and the Boston Massacre.  The Pilgrims also settled in Plymouth, Massachusetts which isnt too far from where we live.  We also have championship teams in Massachusetts: The New England Patriots (Go Pats!), Boston Red Sox (Yea Sox!), the Boston Celtics, the Bruins, and the Revolution.
We hope some days you can come to Massachusetts and swim at our beaches and visit our historical sites.
