Greetings from Maryland
“The Old Line
State”
We are a class of fifth grade students from Baltimore,
Maryland.
Baltimore is
the largest
city in Maryland.
We enjoy a lot of unique things here in Maryland
one of which is the Maryland Blue Crab.
The blue crab is our official state crustacean and comes
from the Chesapeake Bay. We
enjoy snow during
the winter months from December through March but during the summer we
like to
swim because we are right on the Atlantic Ocean. We also enjoy our proximity to Washington
DC (the capital of the USA). Did you know Annapolis,
the capital of Maryland,
actually
used to be the capital of the USA?
Maryland
is
famous for a lot of things. The national
anthem “The Star Spangled Banner” was written in Baltimore
Harbor.
The Maryland
state house is the oldest working state house in the country. Babe Ruth was born right here in Maryland
as was Edgar Allen Poe.
A few more nifty facts for you…our state
bird is the
Oriole…the state flower is the Black Eyed Susan…our state drink is
milk…and we
are home to the number one hospital in the world, Johns Hopkins!
Hope you enjoyed learning a little about Maryland!!
