MISSISSIPPI

shoo-fly

Greetings from the Hospitality State, Mississippi!
Mississippi is home of the Delta blues, the birthplace of Elvis, the home of famous authors Eudora Welty, William Faulkner, and John Grisham, and the home of several famous people like Oprah, Faith Hill, Kermit the Frog, Jerry Rice, and Brett Farve.
We live in Grenada, which is 120 miles north of our state capital, Jackson.  Grenada (pronounced with a long A in the middle) is an Indian word that means marriage.  Our town was formed by the marriage of two individuals from rival communities.  To read more about that story, visit our towns website at www.grenadamississippi.com/history.htm
Our town has about 23,000 residents.  We are located on the edge of the Mississippi Delta and our economy is based primarily on commerce and agriculture.  We host many visitors during the summer at Grenada Lake.  We host an annual event, Thunder on Water, which has vendors, games, fishing rodeos, boat races, and a huge fireworks show.  In the fall we have the Downtown Jubilee that highlights local vendors and entertainment.
Our school, Grenada Elementary, has approximately 1,400 students in grades K-3.  We were voted #1 Rural school in the nation by Business Week Magazine!
We hope you will come visit us in Mississippi!
