MONTANA

  mountains
We are the 4th graders from Hysham, MT.  We have 11 students in our class.  Our mascot is the Pirate and our school colors are black and gold.  We live in Treasure County by the Yellowstone River.  Our town is near Pompeys Pillar, the rock formation where William Clark carved his name, during the Lewis and Clark Expedition.  The Little Bighorn Battlefield is also close by.  Many people farm and ranch here.  Farmers raise sugar beets, corn, wheat, alfalfa, and more.  Montana means “Mountainous region”, but there are also plains and hills here.  Some facts about our state are: Tree  Ponderosa Pine, Flower  Bitterroot, Bird  Western Meadowlark, animal  Grizzly Bear, capital  Helena, statehood  1889, nickname  Treasure State/Big Sky State.  We look forward to learning about your state!

Hello! From Huntley Project School.

Montana is a huge (4th largest) state with a lot of interesting history and a lot of space.  It is called the “Treasure State” for its gold, silver, copper, wheat, sugarbeets, and oil.  Our school is close to Pompeys Pillar National Monument, which is along the Lewis and Clark Trail.  William Clark stopped there on his return trip from the Pacific Ocean, and inscribed his name and date on “TheRock”.  He dedicated it to Sacagawea’s son, Pomp.  General Custer had his final battle at the Little Bighorn just south of us.  Many dinosaur fossils have been found in MT.  Miasaura is our state dinosaur.  Glacier and Yellowstone National Parks are in Montana, too.  We have 22 students in our third grade class.

Sincerely, Mrs. Williams’ Third Grade Class
