In Horton Hatches the Egg, Mazie is
a lazy
bird who does not like sitting on her egg. It is boring and she wants
to
take off and see the world. So she asks Horton, the elephant to sit on
her
egg while she takes a vacation to Palm Beach.
Horton sits through the fall, through the icy cold
of
winter and into the spring. The other animals tease him and laugh at
him. Yet, he still sits on the nest and continues to say:
"I meant what I said
And I said what I meant...
An elephant's faithful
Then hunters capture Horton and take him,
the tree and egg to a circus. Horton doesn't like being a captive in
the hot noisy tent, but since he is "faithful 100%", he will not leave
the egg.
At the moment the egg is about to hatch, Mazie
returns and wants it back.
The egg hatches and a little elephant-bird flies
out to greet Horton. At the end Horton and the elephant-bird are return
to
their jungle home:
