Marmota Monax
The groundhog or marmota monax is a fascinating animal.  They have brown fur and small ears and a short tail.  They eat fruits and tree bark.  They live in the fields and prairies.  They are capable swimmers and tree climbers.  They are called whistlepigs because they make a whistle sound.  The groundhog makes its burrow from 20 to 25 feet long.  Groundhog is really cool.

Oh, Groundhog
Groundhogs have many different names.  Their names are the woodchuck, land beaver, or whistlepig.  They have long, curved, thick claws.  The groundhog lives in a hole underground called a burrow.  I think groundhogs are very gentle.

Groundhogs
The groundhog is an interesting animal.  The groundhog is almost 15 inches long.  It also has a tail and front claws.  Groundhogs eat seeds and plants.  They live in underground burrows in the lowlands of North America.  A groundhog is also called a woodchuck and a whistlepig.  We are lucky to live in Ohio with the groundhog.

The Groundhog
The groundhog’s scientific name is Marmota monax.  They are also known as the woodchuck, land beaver, or whistlepig.  The groundhog is a rodent belonging to the group of large ground squirrels known as marmots.  It is common in the northeastern and central United States.  In the west it is only found in Alaska, Alberta, British Columbia, and Washington.  The groundhog is the largest ground squirrel in its geographical range, typically measuring 17 to 26 inches long (including a tail) and weighing 4.5 to 9 pounds.  Groundhogs are made for digging, with short but powerful limbs and curved thick claws.  Groundhogs are good diggers.  They live in burrows in the ground and hibernate in the winter.  Groundhogs use their burrows to escape danger, sleep, and raise their babies.  The groundhog habitat is usually open grassy areas.  The woodchuck lives in meadows and fields.  Groundhogs usually live 2 to 3 years in the wild.  Groundhogs have many babies.  Often wolves, coyotes, bobcats, bears, large hawks, and owls eat groundhogs.  Young groundhogs are often eaten by snakes, which easily enter the burrow.  Groundhogs are also hunted by humans.  Groundhogs are mainly herbivores.  They mostly eat wild grasses and other plants, and berries and farm crops when available.  Groundhogs may also eat grubs, grasshoppers, insects, snails, and other small animals.  Groundhogs can be aggressive and tend to protect their territory from other groundhogs.  (I used the internet for my research)

The Groundhog
Here are some facts about groundhogs.  Groundhogs usually have grayish brown fur and bushy tails.  Groundhogs are herbivores – that means they eat plants like grass, clover, and alfalfa.  They live in burrows underground which can have more than one entrance.  They are also called woodchucks, marmots, or whistle pigs.  They’re mammals and belong to the squirrel family.  They have several enemies including foxes, bobcats, and humans.  Those are my groundhog tips!

Groundhogs
Another name for a groundhog is a woodchuck.  They are large heavily bodied relatives of the squirrel.  They have short legs and tails.  They eat clover and other plants.  They live in burrows.  Groundhogs have their own day.  It is on February 2nd.  They determine whether we have an early spring.  They hibernate all winter long.

Groundhogs
Groundhogs are also called woodchucks.  They are the largest member of the squirrel family.  Groundhogs are brown with black eyes and feet and have sharp claws.  They grow to 17 to 20 inches and weigh between 4 to 14 pounds.  They have good eyesight and hearing.  Groundhogs live in the United States and into Canada and Alaska.  They are excellent diggers.  The burrow is 8 – 12 inches wide.  Groundhogs sleep, raise their young, and hibernate in their burrows.

All About Groundhogs
In my report I am talking about groundhogs.  Groundhogs are brownish-red with a bushy tail.  They weigh up to 12 pounds and are 17 – 12 inches long.  Groundhogs are herbivores which means they like green plants.  They like to eat alfalfa, clover, seeds, grass, and vegetables.  Groundhogs live in burrows found in Alaska, southern Canada, and eastern United States.  Some interesting facts about groundhogs are they are good swimmers and climbers.  Also, it is the only animal with its own holiday in the US.  On Saturday it saw its shadow.  I wanted it not to see its shadow because I wanted an early spring.  Boo hoo!

Whistle Pigs
They are very interesting rodents that live around us.  Groundhogs are usually short.  They are brownish and have short fur.  They eat mostly fruits, plants, and vegetables.  They live in holes in the ground that are called burrows.  They can move up to 700 pounds of dirt when they make a burrow.  Groundhogs are so cool, that I wish I had one.

Groundhogs
Groundhogs are very interesting animals.  They usually have grayish brown fur and bushy tails.  They eat plants, grass, clover, and alfalfa.  They live in burrows underground.  Burrows are like underground tunnels.  Groundhogs are also called whistlepigs.  Groundhogs have four toes on the front foot and five on the back.  Groundhogs are cool because they are different animals.

Mr. Groundhog
Groundhogs are very cool creatures.  Groundhogs grow about 15 inches long and have very sharp claws on their paws.  They are covered in brown fur.
Groundhogs eat vegetation like plants, roots, and seeds.  Groundhogs live in burrows underground.  They store food in their burrow, too.  Groundhogs also have very good eyesight.
Groundhogs are cool, but they can’t predict the weather.

All About Groundhogs
Groundhogs are interesting animals.  Groundhogs have brown gray fur.  They have a short tail and small ears.  They grow up to 17 inches tall.  They eat grass, seeds, leaves, flowers, fruit, eggs, and some insects.  Groundhogs live in burrows underground.  They are hunted by many animals like wolves, dogs, coyotes, bobcats, and foxes.  This is why groundhogs are interesting animals.

Groundhogs
Groundhogs are mostly known for Groundhogs Day and there are many interesting facts people don’t know.  Groundhogs can grow up to 17 inches long and have brown gray fur.  They also have black eyes, sharp claws, and big teeth.  Groundhogs are herbivores which means they eat grass, flowers, leaves, and some insects.  They live in North America in forests and fields.  Groundhogs are mammals and hibernate.  Groundhogs are very interesting animals.

The Underground Groundhogs
Have you ever seen a groundhog?  On February 2nd of every year the US watches a famous groundhog.  In 1841 in Morgantown, Pennsylvania is when they first celebrated groundhog day.  Groundhogs have two coats of fur.  Groundhogs weigh 4 – 14 pounds.  It grows up to 15 inches and its tail is six inches long.  They live 2 – 4 feet underground.  The groundhog can dig over 700 pounds of dirt.  Because it lives underground it has good eyes.  If you want to see a groundhog maybe you should start digging.

Groundhogs in the Northeast
Groundhogs are also called woodchucks.  They live in the woodlands.  Groundhogs look like a squirrel.  They eat grass and berries and sometimes garden crops.  They are common in the northeast and central US.  Groundhogs are good diggers.  They hibernate for up to 6 months.  Even though they prefer the ground, they can climb trees and swim.  In the US we celebrate Groundhog Day on February 2nd.  This is when they tell us how much winter is left.  Groundhogs are very interesting animals.
19
Punxsutawney Phil
Groundhogs have brown fur and short arms and legs.  They eat plants: mostly grasses.  They live in burrows.  Punxsutawney Phil lives in a burrow in the Groundhog Zoo at the library in Punxsutawney.  He lives with his wife, Phyllis, and their children.  On Groundhog Day, the Inner Circle takes Phil to Gobbler’s Knob.  The Official Handler holds Phil so he can look for his shadow.  Phil whispers in Groundhogese and tells the handler his prediction.  This year he said there would be six more weeks of winter.

The Grumpy Groundhog
The grumpiest groundhog never came out of his hole.  One day he peeked out of the hole.  He showed his big claws and bushy tail.  He was brown and black with small eyes.  He began to eat small clover and other plants.  He was getting enough to take back to his burrow to keep all winter long.  But for right now he will tell us that there will be six more weeks of winter.  Because he just ran back into his burrow.

Groundhogs
The groundhog can also be known as the woodchuck, land beaver or a whistle pig.  They have two coats of brown fur.  They have little paws and sharp claws for digging.  They eat wild grasses and other vegetation, and berries.  Groundhogs also eat grubs, grasshoppers, insects, and snails.  Groundhogs like open country and live in burrows underground.  Sometimes they live in sewer pipes.  They can climb trees.  They grow to 32 inches long and weigh up to 30 pounds.  Groundhogs can do many things like swim, climb, dig, and predict weather.
