CALIFORNIA

 scenes from california
Dear class,
Valencia Elem. has about 750 students from K to 6th.  Our class has twenty 2nd graders.  Southern California has mountains, beaches, deserts, and lush farmland for growing many types of fruits, vegetables, and nuts.  We are located forty miles east of Los Angeles nestled in a valley between mountains.  Disneyland, Knott’s Berry Farm, long mountain ranges, the Pacific Ocean, Hollywood, and Lake Arrowhead (where many Olympic figure skaters practice) are all within a one hour drive.  Hope to hear from you soon!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Meister’s Class

Hello! I'm a 5th grader from Dahlia Heights.  There are great things here like beaches [always sunny here].  We have Hollywood, and great amusement parks like Disneyland, Magic Mountain, Universal Studios, and Knott's Berry Farm.  Every winter there is no snow in Southern California, but we can find snow when we drive a few hours to the mountains.  Sometimes movies are made at a restaurant near our school.

Dear Class,
Hi from El Segundo in Southern California.  St. Anthony School has 176 students with 14 students in our fifth grade class.  Our school is just ten minutes from the Pacific Ocean.  El Segundo means “the second” in Spanish, which was the name given because it was the Standard Oil Company’s second refinery.  California is the most populous and third largest state in the Union.  The state’s official nickname is “The Golden State”, referring to the California gold rush, which explains the state motto “Eureka”.
Have a great school year!

Dear Class,
We are a kindergarten class in San Jose, California.  We have 10 boys and 10 girls.  San Jose is a very big city with almost 1,000,000 people.  We play outside all year long because it is very sunny, we only have about 14 inches of rain a year.  We are lucky enough to live a few hours drive from the mountains (for snowing in winter) and about ½ hour from the beach.  Thanks for all the postcards!

Dear Class,
We go to school in Gold River, CA which is near our capitol, Sacramento.  We are also near the site of the 1st gold discovery in CA.
Our school is 15 years old.  We have 700 students at our school.  There are 4 1st grades here.  We have 10 girls and 9 boys in our class.
Love,
Mrs. Buckley and the Panda Class
