Hi,

We are a second grade class of 17 students at Roxbury Elementary School in Stamford, CT.  There are about 120 2nd graders.  Roxbury is an urban school.  It has about 800 students from K-5.  Stamford is a city located on Long Island Sound.  It is a body of water between CT and Long Island, NY.  Stamford has been a city since 1641.  We are about an hour drive to NYC.  Connecticut is one of the New England states.  We have beautiful colored fall leaves and snowy winters.  CT is known as the Constitution state.  The white oak is our state tree, the American robin is our state bird, the mountain laurel is our state flower, and the sperm whale is our state animal.

We hope to hear from you soon.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Lapolla’s 2nd grade class

Dear new friends,
We are third graders from Charles Wright School in Wethersfield, Connecticut.  Our town is the first town south of our capital, Hartford.  We live in the suburbs.  Our town has about 27,000 people.  We are called the Most Ancient Towne because we are known to be the first town settled in Connecticut in 1634.  Our town is represented on the Connecticut flag with one of 3 vines.  The Algonquin Indians were the first natives to settle here, renaming themselves Wongunks (meaning bend in the river).  Our community borders the Connecticut River.  We have a wonderful Cover where the bend in the river is.  Wethersfield is also known as the Red Onion town because our history tells that it produced many red onions.  George Washington planned a battle here.
We have many small stores and restaurants in our town.  Our parks have pools, baseball and soccer fields, basketball courts, playgrounds and even a park for dogs.  We have 4 very different seasons throughout the year:  hot summers, cold winters, warm springs, and cool falls.  Come visit us sometime!

Hi from Connecticut.  We are a small state, but we have lots of great things here: farms, seaports, and a famous school – Yale University in New Haven.  Our state song is “Yankee Doodle”.  The state bird is the robin.  Our state capital is Hartford.  (Some fun facts: first lollipop was made here, and PEZ candies are made here in CT.  Yummy!!)

Dear class,
Westport and Connecticut, the city and state I live in, are very small compared to many other states and cities.  But there are some pretty cool facts about Connecticut!  Our state bird is the American robin, the state bug is the praying mantis, the state animal is the sperm whale and the white oak is the state tree.  The population of Connecticut is about three and a half million!  Some of the biggest attractions of Connecticut are the Bridgeport Bluefish, the Mystic Aquarium, the Beardsly Zoo, Mark Twains’ house and the Compo Beach cannons.

Hello from Ledyard, Connecticut!  Ledyard is in Southeastern Connecticut (New London County) very near the Rhode Island boarder.  In our area there is a large Navy Submarine Base.  Tourists can visit a real submarine at the museum.  Many tourists also visit the Mystic Seaport, a historical seaport, and the Mystic Aquarium.  Ocean Beach is another favorite place to visit in the area.  There is a large beach, a boardwalk, a pool, and even some rides.  There is something for everyone all year round.
