Dear Friends,
We are a third grade class from Dillsboro Elementary in Dillsboro, Indiana.  Last year, our school got the Blue Ribbon Award!  We live in a small, rural town with a population of about 1,500 people.  There are many farms around us.  Many of us enjoy things like riding quads and hunting.  Some of us are in scouts and 4-H club.  We love eating at the one restaurant in our town – Janet’s Diner.  We have an IGA grocery store, a Dollar General, the post office, a drug store, and a few other small businesses.  Dillsboro is located by the Ohio River and we are about 40 minutes away from Cincinnati, Ohio.  We enjoy hearing from all of you – we are learning a lot about the differences in our country!

There IS more than corn in Indiana!  The Hoosier State is the home of the Indianapolis 500 and David Letterman.  Our state bird is the cardinal, and our state tree is the tulip tree.  Indiana's flag is blue and gold and has 19 stars around a liberty torch.  The stars represent the fact that Indiana was the 19th state admitted to the Union.
We are a 3rd grade class from Portage, Indiana, a small city loacted on the southern tip of Lake Michigan, close to the Illinois border.  Our local economy relies heavily on the Steel Industry.

Dear Class,
We are a fifth grade class of 16 students at St. Stanislaus School in Michigan City, IN.  We are a Catholic school with about 136 students in grades Pre-K to 8th.  Indiana is mostly flat with many corn and soy bean fields.  Our city is located next to Lake Michigan.  In the summer, we go to the beach to play in the sand and swim.  Some people go out on their boats.  We are located about 60 miles east of Chicago, Illinois.  Many field trips are taken there to see museums, aquariums and zoos since it is only a one hour drive.  Hope to hear from you soon!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Pinkerton’s Class

Having fun in first,
