<>Hello from Bastrop, LA!  We are Ms. West’s 1st grade class at East Side Elementary.  There are 14 girls and 9 boys in our class, and there are 367 students in our PreK – 6th grade school.  Some of our favorite activities are working in literacy centers and reading with our reading volunteer.

Two of the main industries in our parish are International Paper Mill and cotton farming.  (LA is divided in parishes instead of counties.)  Theses are some of our state symbols: bird – pelican, tree – cypress tree, flower – magnolia, drink – milk, reptile – alligator.

Hello from Louisiana.  We are 5th graders from Carencro, in the heart of Cajun Country.  Over half our class and our teacher are all descendents of the Acadians that came to Louisiana in the 1700s.  We are today known as Cajuns.  Louisiana is the 31st largest state.  Baton Rouge is the capital.  You Are My Sunshine is our state song and it was written by one of our former governors, Jimmie Davis.  We have a lot of hot and warm weather and not much cold.  About every ten years it snows.  Mardi Gras is a very special occasion for us and lots of un.  We have delicious Cajun food, and the best seafood anywhere.  Come see us.  Louisiana is a great place to visit.
