facts about nj
Harrison is a one square mile town, in between Newark and Jersey City.  We are in a very urban area.  Harrison has 4 schools: 1 for grades K– 3, 1 for grades 4 – 5, 1 for grades 6 – 8, and a high school.  Our class is one of 7 second grades.  We currently have 18 students, but that could always change!
Harrison is currently building the NY Red Bulls soccer stadium.  We are about 10 minutes from NJPAC, a performing arts center in Newark.  The New Jersey Devils hockey team is building their new stadium in Newark as well.  We are 12 miles away from New York City, a quick 30 minute ride on mass transit.  We are a short ferry ride from Jersey City to the Statue of Liberty.
New Jersey is home to the New York Giants and the New York Jets football teams.  We also have the New Jersey Nets basketball team.  All three teams play in the Meadowlands, which is 15 minutes away.  New Jersey is famous for its many beaches.
Hope to hear from your class soon!

Hello Class!
We are from Englewood, New Jersey (40.892N, 73.973W) and attend Cleveland Elementary School.  Cleveland School houses about 300 students in grades 2-5.  There are two other elementary schools in the district that everyone else goes to.  Our class has 22 students, 13 boys and 9 girls.  We play a lot of games while we are learning that includes math relay races and “BUZZ”.  We live in a small city and we are lucky enough to have many parks and stores in it.  NJ is a great state because it has Long Beach Island, which is nearly twenty miles of beaches where many of the students vacation with their families.  Additionally, we have Liberty Science Center.  It is a great science museum that we were lucky enough to take a field trip to last month.  The last great thing about Englewood is that we are so close to New York City.  Many of our parents work in the city and we also get to go to the city on weekends to take advantage of many of its fun places!  Hope you are having a great school year and looking forward to hearing from your class!
Sincerely,
Ms. Fischer’s Fifth Graders

Hi,
We are a kindergarten class in Green Brook, New Jersey.  We live 30 miles from New York City and about 150 from Atlantic City.
Our town is one of the places that George Washington camped during the war.  This place is now called Washington Rock.
Our winters get pretty cold and snowy.  We can ski nearby.
Our summers can get very hot, but we have the Jersey shore to swim in the Atlantic Ocean.

Greetings from Long Beach Island, New Jersey,
Long Beach Island is an 18 mile barrier island off the coast of New Jersey.  Here is a picture of “Old Barney”.  It is our lighthouse located at the end of the island.  It’s the second tallest lighthouse in the United States.  It has 144 steps and a spectacular view from the top.
We have 10 girls and 9 boys in our class.  We are studying money in math.  I like music best in school.  Happy Thanksgiving.
