Dear Class,
We live in North Las Vegas, Nevada.  Our school is a Pre K-5th grade school.  Our school also has about 700 kids!  Our city has a lot of lights on The Strip.  The Strip has a lot of hotels and casinos on it.  There is the MGM, Luxor, Caesar’s Palace, and many more!  Our state bird is the Mountain Blue Bird.  Our state rock is Sandstone.  Well hope to hear from you soon!
Sincerely,
Mr. Hartley’s class

Nevada is known as the Silver State.  We were admitted to statehood on October 31, 1864.  Silver State was chosen as our nickname because of the importance of mining to the growth of the state.  In Southern Nevada we have the Hoover Dam.  Construction began in 1931 and finished in 1835.  The dam harnesses the water from the Colorado River and Lake Mead (one of the largest man made lakes in the world).  The Dam provides inexpensive electrical power to Southern Nevada and surrounding communities.  Tourism is the top industry in Nevada.  Nevada is the 7th largest state in the United States and the driest state.  The US government owns about 85% of Nevada’s total land area.  Our class is a 1st grade class with 8 girls and 10 boys.  Our favorite lunch is pizza.
