OKLAHOMA

Route 66 sign
We are in Mrs. Ogan’s first grade class at Lindbergh Elementary School in Tulsa, Oklahoma.  Our school has 600 students in grades PreK – 5.  We have 9 girls and 9 boys in our class.  Tulsa is the 2nd most populous city in Oklahoma with 374,851 residents.  The name Oklahoma is from the Choctaw Indian words “okla” meaning people and “humma” meaning red.  Oklahoma has the largest American Indian population of any state.  Our state bird is the Scissor-Tailed Flycatcher.  Our state tree is the redbud.  Our state fruit is the strawberry.  Our state flower is the Oklahoma Rose and our state wildflower is the Indian Blanket.  Thank you for sharing postcards with us.  Enjoy the rest of the year!

Howdy!
Actually we don’t really say that in this part of OK.  We live in Mustang just W. of our capital city, Oklahoma City.  We are surrounded by houses and farms (mostly winter wheat, horses, and cattle are raised on them).  We are 20 1st graders in a brand new school named ‘Centennial Elem.’ because the state of OK became a state 100 years ago.  We are excited to be getting 100 postcards to celebrate!

Hello from Oklahoma!
We are Mrs. Jones’s 1st grade class in Hennessey, OK.  There are 18 students in our class and 349 students in our school.  Hennessey is a rural town of about 2000 people located 60 miles NW of Oklahoma City.
We enjoy all 4 seasons.  In fall we like to play in the leaves.  In winter we like to make snowmen, snow angels, and throw snowballs.  In spring we plant flowers and enjoy seeing Oklahoma’s state tree, the Redbud, in bloom.  In summer we enjoy swimming, fishing, and camping.
It’s Oklahoma’s 100th birthday!  You can learn about our centennial celebration by visiting http://www.travelok.com

Hello from Mrs. Henry’s 2nd grade class!
We are from Bryant Elem. in Moore, Oklahoma.  We have 600+ students in our school and 110 are in the 2nd grade.  Our class has 12 girls and 10 boys.  Moore is a suburb of Oklahoma City, our state’s capital.  We are minutes from Norman, home of the Oklahoma Sooners!  Moore was founded during the land-run of 1889.  We are celebrating Oklahoma’s 100th birthday this month.  Downtown OKC is home to many attractions including: Bricktown, historic Stockyards, Cowboy Hall of Fame & Western Heritage Museum, Bricktown Canal, OKC National Memorial & Museum, OKC Zoo, Ford Center (temp. home of the New Orleans Hornets), and many more.  Oklahoma is beautiful this time of year with the trees changing colors.  We are enjoying the postcard exchange and learning about so many different places!
