Hello,
Greetings from Puerto Rico, a small tropical island in the Caribbean
Sea that is part of the United States. The island has 78 municipalities
and approximately 4 million inhabitants. Puerto Rico is 35 miles
wide and 100 miles long. You can cross the island by car in approximately
3 hours.
Puerto Rico was given to the United States as a result of the Spanish-American
War in 1898. Our island’s first known inhabitants were a peaceful
group of Indians called Tainos. After Columbus encountered the island,
it was colonized by Spain, which made us a Spanish-speaking colony.
With the arrival of the American government, English became our second language.
