WASHINGTON, D.C.

white house
Hello from Washington Dc!  The District of Columbia is the capital of the USA.  Washington DC is neither a state nor territory, but has a government that resembles both.  We are located between Virginia and Maryland on the Potomac River.  The population is 572,059.  The major industries are the federal government and tourism.  The highest point is 410 feet above sea level.  The name Washington was to honor the first president, George Washington.  The name Columbia is in reference to Christopher Columbus.  Our sports teams are the Wizards (basketball), Nationals (baseball), Redskins (football), and Capitals (hockey).
