Laura Jones is the Director of Food
Service for Geneva Schools. In accordance with the requirements
for the National Breakfast & Lunch Programs, she creates your monthly

What makes her qualified to write the menus?
She has earned the credential, School Nutrition Specialist
(SNS), the highest credential in the profession.
In order to receive this credential, Mrs. Jones had to meet
the academic and experience requirements as well as demonstrate competency
through successfully passing a national standardized test for the school
foodservice and nutrition profession. She is one of only
900 professionals who have earned this designation nationwide.
She also has a Bachelor’s Degree in Nutrition and a Master’s Degree in
Business Administration.
This credential is offered through the School Nutrition Association,
a nonprofit organization of over 55,000 members that encourages the
highest standards in school foodservice and nutrition programs.
This credential recognizes those who have obtained a high level of
professional achievement.
Dear Parents and Students,
We have computerized cash registers in all of
our cafeterias. If your child has qualified for
free or reduced price lunches or breakfasts, this information
is in the system, and the meal will be processed just
as it is for all other students for optimum confidentiality.
Students can pay in cash. However, we
strongly recommend parents/guardians deposit
checks or money into the student’s account. Deposits
must be placed in an envelope with the student’s name
& PIN number. If there is more than one student
in a family, one student may make deposits to their
sibling’s accounts as long as you tell us the amounts to
deposit to each account.
A box is located in the Secondary Kitchen for
pre-payments. Please make these in the morning
before schools starts or in between classes.
Example:
A $20.00 check……Billy Doe - Grade 7, Teacher’s
Name $10.00
Judy Doe - Grade 8, Teacher’s
Name $10.00
Check prepayments are accepted and encouraged;
place your child(s) name(s) on the check.
Question: What will stop the student from
purchasing more than the parent allows?
Answer: If this is a problem with your
child, simply notify us in writing what their limitations
are and it will be programmed into the system.
Example: A student desires to purchase 10 ice
cream sandwiches and you only permit one per
day, information will be placed in the system and
we will comply with your wishes.
If a student’s account gets low, our staff will
remind them.
Money in the student’s account at the end of
the school year will be carried over to the next
school year. If a student withdraws, please
send us a letter so we can refund your money.
If you are concerned about a food allergy that
your child has, please notify the cafeteria.
A warning will appear on the cashiers’ screen
for a review of the items on the student’s tray.
If for any reason you would like a copy of the
transactions of your child’s account we will
be able to give you a print out.
If you have any questions, please feel free to
call me at my office 466-4831, ext. 189.
Thanking you in advance for your patience in
implementing this system.
Sincerely,
Laura Jones
Director of Food Service
