School & Community
Geneva High School, a four-year comprehensive school, is located 50 miles east of Cleveland along the Lake Erie shore. The Geneva Area City School District is a combination of small towns, villages, and rural settings. With a population of 6,700 citizens, Geneva is the largest municipality in the district. The community is truly the foundation of the system, as is evidenced by the long tradition of support for the schools. Geneva High School serves a diverse population which now numbers 96.8% Caucasian, 2.2% Hispanic/Latino, 0.7% Afro-American, 0.2 % Asian/Pacific Islander, and 0.1% Multi-Racial. Geneva High School has an enrollment of 1,130 students with 224 graduating seniors. It is accredited by the State of Ohio and the North Central Association.

PROGRAM OF STUDIES The high school offers a comprehensive educational program:
Advanced Placement
Highly challenging courses with expectations that students will work independently and
demonstrate high levels of critical and analytical thinking, reading and writing.
College Preparatory
Courses which demand high levels of cognitive and problem solving processes. A rigorous instructional pace allows for both curricular depth and enrichment.
Regular
Courses which provide instruction to develop skills in reading and writing, reasoning, higher level thinking, computation. These courses ready students for college work as well as other post-secondary avenues.
Vocational
Courses in Occupational Work Adjustment and Occupational Work Experience are available for at-risk students. Basic study skills and exposure to the world of work are presented to students enrolled in these classes.
At the end of the sophomore year Geneva students may opt to enter a diploma/certificate granting program at the Ashtabula County Joint Vocational School.

Graduation Requirements
As of September, 2001, students are required to take 21 credits including 4 English, 3 math, 3 social studies (Principles of Democracy accounts for 1 of the 3 required credits in social studies), 3 science, .5 physical education, .5 health, and a minimum of 7 elective credits. The Ohio Ninth Grade Proficiency Test must be passed in order for a student to be granted a diploma.

Academic Evaluation
GRADING SYSTEM The school uses a letter system with the following equivalents:

A = 90 - 100 C = 70 - 79 F = Below 60

B = 80 - 89 D = 60 - 69 P = Pass (Not computed in GPA)

CLASS RANK Class rank is computed each year beginning with the 9th grade using a 4.0 scale, except for AP designated classes; said classes carry a 5.0 A, resulting in a weighted grade point average and class ranking.
