Geneva Area City Schools will alter their current hybrid plan to a 4-day a week schedule for students that are attending in-person at the elementary, middle school and high school levels. Safety and the well-being of our students and staff is a priority.  We have realized over this unusual start of the school year that more in-person time is critical.  We are hopeful that the additional days will be beneficial to our students, families and staff and not create any further health issues.

*Beginning Monday, October 12, 2020 - All students who are attending in person (Hybrid A / B) will attend in person each week for 4 days (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday).

*Wednesdays will continue as a non-student day for cleaning / sanitizing / planning and support.

*Online students will continue online through at least the first 9 weeks.  In early October, schools will contact online students to see if they will return at the end of the 9 week period.  Currently, we have approximately 550 students (K-12) that are fully online.

Online students that choose to return will return on Monday, November 2nd (after the first 9 week grading period).

Online students that decide to return later (after the 9 week), will be encouraged to remain online through the end of the first semester.  These students will return on Monday, January 25, 2021.

* Over the next few weeks as we prepare for the change, we will review class numbers and look for ways that we can distance students as much as we can.  We know this change may eliminate some of the distancing that the district has created for students but we will continue to require face coverings, hand washing, sanitizing, desk barriers and other safety procedures.

Some of the advantages that we have in making a change...

*Currently, our numbers of hybrid / in-person students are still manageable.  We will have some "pockets" of larger classes or groups.  There will need to be some minor changes to our plan but the district believes we are able to make the necessary changes.

*School cases across the county have remained low and we hope that trend continues.  We realize that COVID-19 cases could occur at any time and we need to prepare for that situation.  As a district, we realize that with less distancing, if we have a confirmed case, it may require more students and staff to be isolated or quarantined.  But with our early low numbers in the hybrid model, we have been able to provide the necessary training to our students and staff members which can be continued and reinforced with more people in the buildings.

*We have a few weeks to finalize details for our change to a 4 day a week plan.  If there are adjustments that need to be made for lunches, arrival, dismissal, transitions, ... the buildings will make the necessary adjustments.
