Tuffy the Eagle - Geneva's Mascot

If you have watched the news, you have seen numerous school districts adapting their current plans.  Most of the changes that are occurring are a result of the level / color change in their county.  As part of our original plan that is posted on the website, the information below is listed.

If the county goes to a Level RED:

The district will notify the community (a change  may not be immediate as we will work closely with the Ashtabula County Health Department), students will go to online education only.  Teachers and staff will still report to their buildings with safety precautions observed.

If the county goes to a Level PURPLE:

The district will notify the community (a change may not be immediate as we will work closely with the Ashtabula County Health Department), students will stay online education only.  Teachers and staff will be instructed but may not report to their buildings after consultation with the Ashtabula County Health Department.

So... what does this all mean?  As you have watched counties change in designation weekly an immediate change will not occur if our counties' designation changes.  The district will work closely with the Ashtabula County Health Department to determine the factors that changed our designation level.  After reviewing all of the factors and discussing all of the details, we will ask for a recommendation from the Ashtabula County Health Department.  With that recommendation, the district will make a decision.  If there is a change in our in-person status, the district will try to  provide sufficient notice and an opportunity for students to get any necessary materials.  Communication with students, teachers, staff and families will be important so please check the website (under NEWS or LIve Feed) for any updated information.

In addition, if we have athletic teams or other student groups that need to travel to other counties that are currently red we will gather more information to make an informed decision.  In those events, we will communicate with our health department who will contact the other health departments if necessary.  We will also communicate with the other school districts to find out what exposure has occurred within their district (active cases, students or staff quarantined, ...).  The district will do its best to consider all information in making a final determination.

As a district, we have done an exceptional job following our procedures and encouraging our students (and families) to do the same.  We thank our parents and students for monitoring your own health and staying home when necessary. The district will always focus on the safety of our students and staff as we continue to work through this pandemic. Thank you for your continued support! Stay Safe...Stay Healthy...and Stay Positive!
