REMINDER SAFETY DRILL THIS MORNING
Dear Geneva Area City Schools Families,
The safety of our students and staff remains our highest priority. As part of our ongoing commitment to preparedness, Geneva Area City Schools will conduct a functional safety drill on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM. The scenario is a train derailment near the high school.
This drill will involve the following buildings only:
Geneva High School
Geneva Middle School
Geneva Platt R. Spencer Elementary School
Students will be notified ahead of time that this is only a drill and not a real emergency. Staff will remind students to stay calm, follow directions, and move through the drill in a safe and orderly manner. Our school nurses will also be on hand to support any student who may need assistance.
Because this is a functional drill, students will not be permitted to enter or leave the building during the drill window (if they are not already at school). We ask families to plan accordingly.
Portions of the drill may take place outdoors and a few GHS/GMS students will be transported by bus to another location (parents/guardians of these students will be notified ahead of time). Please check the weather forecast that morning to ensure your child is dressed appropriately and wearing comfortable walking shoes.
We appreciate your support as we continue to strengthen our safety practices. In preparation for this drill, we have held several meetings with our local safety forces and the district safety committee. This collaboration allows all of us—students, staff, and first responders—to hone our skills and ensure we are well prepared should an emergency ever occur.
Thank you for your partnership in keeping our schools safe and ready.
Warmly,
Geneva Area City Schools Administration

Geneva Area City Schools is proud to introduce a new districtwide recognition program designed to honor the outstanding individuals who make a difference in the lives of our students each day. This initiative reflects our ongoing commitment to fostering a Culture of Excellence across our schools and throughout our community.
As part of this program, one staff member from each building has been selected as a Building GATA Staff Member of the Year and a Building OAPSE Staff Member of the Year. These honorees will move forward to a districtwide vote, where all employees will help select the 2025–2026 GATA Staff Member of the Year and the 2025–2026 OAPSE Staff Member of the Year. In addition, administrators across the district will be nominated, with staff voting to select the 2025–2026 Administrator of the Year.
This program was created to recognize the dedication, care, and professionalism of our employees, as well as the positive impact they have on our students, families, and community.
You can view the nominees in each category here:

The winners in each of the three categories will be announced during the Board of Education meeting on May 20, 2026, where all honorees will be recognized for their contributions. Each winner will receive a Chromebook, generously donated by STS Education, along with a certificate of appreciation, and will have their name displayed on a plaque at the Board of Education office.
We are incredibly proud of the exceptional staff members who serve our district and are grateful for the meaningful work they do every day. Thank you for your continued support of Geneva Area City Schools.
Sincerely,
Dr. Paul A. Lombardo
Superintendent

Athletic Facility Capital Campaign
Geneva students need your help!
Due to changes at SPIRE Academy, many of our students are now facing unexpected challenges accessing extracurricular and athletic opportunities. To ensure our students continue to have the facilities they deserve, the Geneva Board of Education has committed to funding new athletic spaces, but we can’t do it alone.
To add important amenities like restrooms, locker rooms, and storage areas, we have launched the Geneva Athletic Facilities Capital Campaign.. You can also learn more by visiting our homepage at Genevaschools.org and using the link labeled “Athletic Facility Campaign.” We ask you to consider donating and sharing our campaign with others.

Please forward this message to friends and family who believe in supporting Geneva students. Together, we are confident our village can make this happen.
Thank you for your support, and please help us spread the word.

The session scheduled for Tuesday, February 3, will take place as planned.
Both meetings will be held in the Geneva High School Media Center.
We look forward to seeing you.

Please stay warm and safe.
Due to extreme cold winter weather in the forecast, Geneva Area City Schools will be closed on Tuesday, January 27, 2026.
